Golden Builds New Fibre Optic Links In Russia

Golden Telecom, Inc. has completed construction and started operation of its fibre-optic communications line between Moscow and Nizhny Novgorod. Construction (in conjunction with Vimpelcom) first began in 2004. The link has now been certified by the RosSvyazNadzor commission. Demand for IP Bandwidth in Russia has doubled annually since 2003. It is expected that the number of the users of broadband Internet access in Russia will also double annually and increase to 7.9 million users by 2010. Further construction is underway on the Nizhny Novgorod-Kazan-Ufa segment, completion of which is scheduled for 4Q2006. In 2007, the Company will begin construction of a fibre-optic line on the Kazan-Naberezhniye Chelny-Perm-Ekaterinburg and the Ufa-Samara-Saratov segment will be completed by the end of 2007. Golden Telecom has also partnered with Vimpelcom to construct a line on the Moscow-Voronezh to Rostov-on-Don-Krasnodar segment.
