New World Network Expands Caribbean Ring

Posted on: 07/07/2006

New World Network, the principal owner of the Americas Region Caribbean Optical-ring System (ARCOS), has completed a US$2 million expansion of its core Internet Protocol (IP) network with financial backing from Columbus Communications Inc. The company has expanded its IP network with the activation of two new core IP access nodes together with a substantial upgrade to its existing node in North Miami, FL. The network expansion provides increased network redundancy in addition to offering increased flexibility with new high-speed interfaces including STM-4, STM-16, STM-64 and Gigabit Ethernet. The upgrade enables New World Network to continue in providing scalable IP transit, and to support future services including MPLS based IP-VPNs and other managed services, strengthening its position as a provider of choice in the region. The network expansion, which included installation of several carrier-class Juniper routers, is in response to customer demand for increased flexibility and capacity. Already three national communications providers in Guatemala, Jamaica, and Puerto Rico subscribe to this new service operating on the expanded IP platform.
