Altech Buys 51 Per Cent Stake In Sameer ICT Ltd Posted on: 05/03/2008 South African firm, Altech, has acquired a 51 per cent controlling stake in the Sameer ICT Limited. The deal that was effected on March 1st, at a cost of $11.2 million (Sh784 million) will result in Altech taking control three of its subsidiaries. They are Kenya Data Networks Limited, Swift Global (Kenya) and Infocom Limited. Speaking during the announcement at Norfolk Hotel Tuesday, Sameer Group chairman, Mr Naushad Merali said the partnership was a ‘perfect fit for our Pan African strategy and expansion.’ He said the partnership will enable the company improve on its service delivery. “Partnership with Altech is in line with the group’s policy to look for strong strategic partnerships with the aim of increasing the portfolio of products and services and improving the service quality offered,” Mr Merali said. Kenya Data Networks is an ICT infrastructure provider, that is currently linking up the country with neighbours through a fibre optic cable. It offers access to its network at wholesale rates to internet service providers and large corporates. Swift Global (Kenya) is a service provider in Kenya and Tanzania, which provides corporate virtual network and wireless solutions, as well as voice over internet protocol (VoIP). Infocom offers broadband, internet and IT services in Uganda. The company has a licence to offer full communications services including international traffic, as well as data, voice and video over any medium and technology. It operates a Wimax network and satellite based international gateway. Altech director, Mr Henk Basson said the partnership would provide the firm with the leverage through use of Sameer’s regional expertise in the ICT sector.News story posted by: BroadGroup
